About GELATO 101

The story of GELATO 101 starts in the summer of 2003 with Bottega Italiana in Seattle's historic Pike Place Market. Native Italians David Arato, Luca Guerrieri and Antonella Ragazzi opened the doors to their first store that summer in an effort to create a sumptuous reminder of their homeland. Their goal was simple; the highest quality! With techniques learned from critically acclaimed Gelatieri in Italy, it is obvious from the first bite that this is authentic artisan gelato at its best.

David Arato then brought GELATO 101 to San Diego County where he now lives with his wife and children. Even while overseeing four Gelato Cafes stretching from Coronado to Encintas, David still handcrafts each gelato recipe, staying true to the original goal of bringing an authentic taste of Italy to his new home.
